In an increasingly complex, sedentary and rapidly changing world it is critical for every young Australian to not only be able to cope with life's challenges but also to flourish as healthy, safe and active citizens in the 21st century. Nirimba State Primary School delivers the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education (HPE) to all students from Prep to Year 6. This curriculum aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable students to access, evaluate and synthesise information to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for their own and others' health, wellbeing, safety and physical activity participation across their lifespan.
Our curriculum is split into two strands which are Personal, Social and Community Health; and Movement and Physical Activity. Nirimba students in Prep to Year 6 will participate in specialist Health and Physical Activity lessons each week, incorporating respectful relationships education. Students will use our exceptional school hall and oval facilities, along with the adjacent sporting fields to participate in physical activity lessons.
Nirimba State Primary School's close proximity to the beach, makes it increasingly important that our students understand water safety. In line with our Health and Wellbeing education framework, all students will participate in a water safety and swimming program as part of the HPE Curriculum. In Term 4, students from Prep to Year 6 will be offered a swimming safety program, with the specialist HPE teacher and swimming instructors, at John Wallace Swim School. Students in Year 3-6 will be offered a surf awareness program, through Surf Life Saving Queensland, to be conducted at one of our beautiful, local beaches.
