The study of English is central to the learning and development of all young Australians. It helps create confident communicators, imaginative thinkers and informed citizens. At Nirimba State Primary School, we teach the Australian Curriculum: English.
Our curriculum ensures that students learn to listen to, read, view, speak, write, create and reflect on increasingly complex and sophisticated spoken, written and multimodal texts across a growing range of contexts with accuracy, fluency and purpose. The English curriculum is split into three, interrelated sub-strands of Language, Literature and Literacy, with each sub-strand interacting with and enriching the others in creative and flexible ways.
At Nirimba State Primary School, we not only explicitly teach English content and concepts, but we also ensure literacy skills are taught and embedded in all other learning areas. Each classroom uses a range of teaching approaches to ensure every child is appropriately challenged and experiences success in their English learning journey.
